DANGEROUS GOODS EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING PTY LTD – PROFILE Structure –
The business commenced as Ron Palmer and Associates Pty Ltd on the 2nd November, 1990 offering consultancy and training in dangerous goods handling. On the 2nd February, 2001 a partnership was formed and the name was changed to Dangerous Goods Equipment Pty Ltd. Earlier this year the name was changed again to Dangerous Goods Equipment and Training Pty Ltd (hereafter referred to as DGET) to better reflect the full range of services offered to our customers.
In addition to the Partners, DGET has 3 contracting consultants and one administrative assistant. The partners and consultants all have a transport management background. Ron Palmer is the only partner with a day to day involvement in the company and is a Director and Company Secretary. The contracting consultants are full time and located in Townsville, Mackay and Brisbane. An Agent is located in Sydney and it is proposed to be represented by Agents in all other Capital cities by September, 2006.
Qualifications –
In addition to their transport backgrounds at a management level, our Contracting Consultants are qualified and can advise in the following areas:-
# Dangerous Goods accreditation with Queensland Transport;
# Workplace Health and Safety Officer;
# Certificate 4 in Workplace Assessment and Training;
# Load Restraint Training (2 hour introduction to 2 days advanced sessions);
# Environmental Issues; and
# Regulated Waste Transport.
In addition, our Contracting Consultants are required to have an understanding of Mass Management and Fatigue Management Legislation; Dangerous Goods Safety Management (Storage) Act & Regulations. One staff person is a PACIA Accredited Auditor.
Administration –
DGET currently operates from premises at Eight Mile Plains. Negotiations are underway for a “purpose built” facility in Brisbane. When finalised the facility will be designed to accommodate a “hands on” style of training necessary for operations people. Programs are also available for clerical, administrative, and supervisory / management staff.
Equipment Items –
DGET is not a manufacturer, however, is a Distributor for a range of about 330 products used by businesses involved with the manufacture, distribution, storage, transport and disposal of dangerous goods. The arrangement we have with manufacturers enables us to provice the range of equipment items at reasonable cost and at short notice. The following is an overview of the major distributorships.
1. Ev-Cam Load Restraint Equipment -
Ev-Cam load restraint equipment is ‘ innovative’ and is manufactured at Miles Qld., by a person who has been involved in the transport industry for 22 years. He designed the first winch because he saw a need for a better way to restrain loads. Over the past 6 years of the development, the manufacturer has been working with Bluescope Steel for purposes of technical advice and testing.
In all, there are 6 designs of Ev-Cam load restraint equipment available with 40 items overall. They comply with relevant Australian Standards, are high pretension, have built-in auto locks with no recoil. The designs include:-

Transport Industry Load Restraints

Weld On Winches
Load Protector and Accessories
This equipment has the potential to save an estimated $15 millions in workers compensation each year. Should you wish, a DVD can be made available for your viewing and internal use. By arrangement we will arrange a demonstration at your premises and at your convenience.
2. Oil Chemical Absorbent –
DGET is a national distributor for Sokerol Oil / Chemical absorbent which is manufacturer at Tin Can Bay Qld and is used on a regular basis by transport companies. The product is particularly effective with oil spills as well as a range of other hydrocarbons. The manufacturer holds approval from the E.P.A. to dispose of small quantities of waste contained in sokerol in industrial bins and to landfill
3. Outdoor Storage Units and Materials Handling Equipment –
DGET is a Distributor for Bremco Metal Products Pty Ltd. Their products are particularly suited to transport and warehousing customers. Most sought after lines are forklift attachments, pallet cages, dangerous goods storage equipment, drum grabs, and spill containment pallets. The outdoor storage equipment items are custom made to the customers specifications.
4. Safety Equipment –
DGET is a Distributor for PBA Safety who provide indoor storage cabinets, spill containment pallets of varying sizes, safety showers and other equipment items necessary for a warehouse environment, transport operation, mining industry, laboratories, and a range of other industry types.
5. Safety Signs –
DGET is a Distributor of signs to comply with a range of Legislation including Workplace Health and Safety, dangerous goods storage and handling and dangerous goods transport requirements. Standard signs can be supplied on demand, whereas non standard signs may take a few days to produce.
6. Shipping Containers –
DGET is a supplier of a range of containers new and used from 40’ to 10’ freight containers to ISO containers. Whether the demand be from the transport industry, manufacturers, building industry as security container, mines for accommodation unit, site offices, dangerous goods storage or farm storage sheds, we can satisfy the need whether it be on rental or purchase.
Consulting / Auditing –
Our range of expertise in consulting and auditing is summarised on the attachment. To achieve our aims we maintain a close association with the relevant people in each Government Department, whether it be Transport, Environment, W.H.&S, Mines, Gas, Chem Unit or Local Government bodies.
We can advise on vehicle or facility design for dangerous goods, recommend on a handling system, arrange licensing as a flammable liquids site, arrange Notification of Large Dangerous Goods Locations and Major Hazard Facilities to the Emergency Services Chem Unit, advise on placarding of buildings or design documentation and emergency evacuation procedures. Our Consultants have experience in Compliance Auditing.
An important aspect of our consultancy is to work with our transport customers and their customers. This generally is to review and recommend on a method of load restraint to prevent damage in transit
Training –
Dangerous Goods Awareness Training for loaders, drivers and clerical / administration staff is the most sought after and is recommended at least every 12 months. Bulk D.G. Licence training is provided as required.
Quality Load Restraint Training is important particularly for transport operators. For this reason our Brisbane based Consultant has completed 2 days of specialist training and is available to provide training by arrangement within the State.
All training for operations staff is ‘hands on’ wherever possible, and focuses on what the participant has to know.
